After you hit Hellfire, where to next?

Made a post about hitting Hellfire instances for tank gear. Now, I'm looking at the Coilfang Reservoir. First up - The Slave Pens.

Coilfang Reservoir: The Slave Pens
-- Back:
Bogstrok Scale Cloak drops from Rokmar the Crackler.
-- Ranged
Coilfang Needler drops from Rokmar the Crackler.
-- Chest
Unscarred Breastplate drops from Quagmirran.

Coilfang Reservoir: The Underbog
-- Neck:
Talisman of Tenacity dropped by Ghaz'an.
-- Back:
Cloak of Enduring Swiftness dropped by Swamplord Musel'ek.
-- Legs:
Greaves of the Iron Guardian dropped by Swamplord Musel'ek.
-- Shoulder:
Pauldrons of Brute Force dropped by The Black Stalker.
-- Ranged:
Needle Shrike from Hungarfen.
-- 2H Mace:
Hatebringer dropped by Ghaz'an.

So there's at least the first two instances in Coilfang and the first four instances I'm going to gear from in BC for my tanking experience. I'll be looking at the quest rewards from levels 60 - 62 and then posting my goals for gear by 64.

I just hit 60, now what...

Veneretio over at TankingTips has a great article on how to start getting gear once you hit 70.

Since I'm gonna do 60-70 as a full Prot spec, I wanted to build a list of things to start accumulating as soon as you head through the Dark Portal. I chose to stick to instances for now. I might branch out to quest rewards later.

First off is Hellfire Citadel: Hellfire Ramparts

Loot:
-- Neck:
Garrote-String Necklace from Omor the Unscathed.
-- Back:
Mok'Nathal Wildercloak from the Reinforced Iron Chest after killing Nazan and Vazruden.
-- 1H Sword:
Shadowrend Longblade from Watchkeeper Gargolmar.
-- Legs:
Ironsole Clompers from the the Reinforced Iron Chest after killing Nazan and Vazruden.
-- Waist:
Tenacious Defender from Omor the Unscathed.
-- Ring:
Mok'Nathal Clan Ring from the Reinforced Iron Chest after killing Nazan and Vazruden.

Next is Hellfire Citadel: The Blood Furnace

Loot:
-- Neck:
Pendant of Battle-Lust from The Maker.
-- Ranged:
Legion Blunderbuss from Broggok.
-- Hands:
Ironblade Gauntlets from The Maker.
-- 2H Axe:
Warsong Howling Axe from Keli'dan the Breaker.

Running Hellfire Citadel to get this items should definitely give me a boost with my "Intro to Tanking full Prot." Looking forward to it.

Healing Pots, Armor Pots, Potpotpot

Un'Goro's where I be right now. Killin' apes and dinos and giant frakkin' plants. Aaaand, I died. A lot. Plus, lots of those apes do this thing:

Annoying Ape bangs on his chest, calling for help.

Then I'd have a 3v1 and I'm on the losing streak. I realized I couldn't horde (haha) my money. I have to keep my Pots stacked. So, here's a break down of the 50+ pots I need to carry.

Potions:

Healing
Major Healing Potion (lvl 45) ingredients: 2 Golden Sansam, 1 Mountain Silversage
Volatile Healing Potion (lvl 55) ingredients: 1 Golden Sansam, 1 Felweed
Super Healing Potion (lvl 55) ingredients: 2 Netherbloom, 1 Felweed

Rage
Mighty Rage Potion (lvl 46) ingredients: 3 Gromsblood

Shield
Greater Stoneshield Potion (lvl 46) ingredients: 2 Stonescale Eel (2 Stonescale Oil), 1 Thorium Ore
Ironshield Potion (lvl 60) ingredients: 3 Motes of Earth, 2 Ancient Lichen

Elixirs:

Battle Elixirs
Elixir of Brute Force (lvl 45) ingredients: 2 Gromsblood, 2 Plagueblooms *
Elixir of the Mongoose (lvl 46) ingredients: 2 Silversage, 2 Plagueblooms
Elxir of Major Strength (lvl 50) ingredients: 1 Silversage, 1 Felweed
Elixir of Major Agility (lvl 55) ingredients: 1 Tercone, 2 Felweed **

Guardian Elixirs
Elixir of Superior Defense (lvl 43) ingredients: 2 Stonscale Eel (2 Stonescale Oil), 1 Sungrass
Elixir of Major Fortitude (lvl 50) ingredients: 2 Ragveil, 1 Felweed **
Elixir of Major Defense (lvl 55) ingredients: 1 Terocone, 3 Lichen
Major Troll's Blood Potion (lvl 53) ingredients: 1 Gromsblood, 2 Plaguebloom *

Now I just have to figure whether it's better to stack AGI or STR with your Elixirs. OOOOOOoooooh decisions! I think that answer will probably be based on my economy on Ravenholdt. If the AGI elixirs are CRAZY expensive, Imma skip 'em. Silly rogue twinks. Playing silly prices. I *heart* you for buying the stuff I sell but I *no heart* you for driving up AGI prices.

*sniffles* It's not easy being big and meaty...

Why?! WHYWHYWHY??!?

I logged into Neb this weekend. Things died. Orkwar can kills things, too. But Neb just has this FINESSE about it. I mean, he send Ramboar out, thing dies, on to the next. I don't even have to think about it!

With Orkwar, I punch something and it punches me back. All that punching costs me gold too. I think it comes out to around 67c each time I take a hit. And if I have to meet the Spirit Lady, then those hits just spike to about 1s 45c.

Ooooh.

I love to tank but, my word, it keeps me broke!

So, I just can't play Neb till Orkwar has hit 70. I have to resist the urge to mangle things in under 5 seconds. Orkwar killing in 2 minutes 35 seconds will just have to suffice for now.

*sniffles* But it was so neato...

To TM or not to TM

My big question I'm struggling with - For a Hybrid build, do you spend the points in TM or Flurry?

With TM, you can switch from a full Rage bar to any stance with 25 Rage. Enough for Spell Reflect. Without TM, no Spell Reflect.

But, you lose Flurry. I've heard a lot of talk about Flurry and I spec'd for it for a while and it procs pretty much all the time. I'd only be able to get 3 points into it but that would still make my swings 15% faster. With a 3.5s 2H, I'd be swinging in under 3s. That's a pretty good increase in DPS. It lasts for 3 swings and with enough +CRIT, you'd probably get another proc. But you wouldn't be stance dancing to get a spell reflect.

I'm running with the Ice Barbed Spear which is a 3.6s swing. With 3/5 Flurry, I get a 15% faster swing on each crit for the next 3 swings.

3.6-(3.6*0.15) = 3.06s per swing. This makes my DPS 63.4 instead of 53.9. An increase of almost 10 DPS. And that's just on a 51 weapon.

Let's look at something like Vengeful Gladiator's Decapitator. Again, 3/5 Flurry, so we use 15% and we get 3.06s per swing.

(386+580)/2 = 157.8 DPS

That's a 23.6 DPS increase. I think I can do with that...

And just for the record, without TM, you still have Intercept, Pummel, Overpower, and Shield Bash available once you switch stances. You'd pretty much just be missing out on Spell Reflect.

Is it worth it?

I think I'd have to say yes. I'm gonna miss switching for a Spell Reflect but when I can ALWAYS be hitting faster, I'll take the loss.

I'll just have to kill clothies faster >:)

Linking to Photos

I might want to put a few screenshots in so I'm just postin' a little test to see where, what and whos about how to do it.

Tumbnail size (144px)

Small (288 px)

Medium (400 px)

Linking to Picasa to see how these images turned out. The aboves are all .JPEG so I'll put a Medium .GIF down below for comparison.

Not too happy that you can't upload .TIFF or .PNG to Picasa. I'll have to see if there's another photoshare out there that you can.

Here's a .TIFF from Flickr in Medium size.

Prot build

And here's just the Prot tree from Flickr, again in Medium and .TIFF -

Prot Tree

And here's the Prot tree from Picasa, Meduim and .JPEG

Large, .JPEG, Picasa

Hate to say it, but I really like Flickr just for the .TIFF ability. I'm really anal about my colors being correct. I think Flickr can even take .PNG which is the format WoW saves screenshots. Maybe the home version of Picasa works for better lossless formats.

Friends in WoW

I just wanted to send a shout-out to a couple of people I've grouped with who've made the experience great.

1) Antje - my wife's warlock. Yes, I get frustrated. Yes, we have different playstyles. Yes, I still have a great time when we're on and you get excited about seeing something new or when you level. It's pretty nifty.

2) Banee - Druid who does it all. I have no clue how to play a druid so when Banee sits there and talk about how he can be the healer/ DPS/ Tank for the group, I kinda feel useless. He's frakkin' badass at doing what he does and I love watching a druid who knows how to shift forms quick enough to handle any situation.

3) GOOD Shamans - All specs. Those guys that know how to use 'em. I love grouping with a good shammy. Oh man do things die fast.

4) All of Rend Fate - Casi, Linaran, Drunky, Dunkie, Ery, Orko, Sabrine, Rayne, Morgaine and all the others I missed. They put up with me asking stupid questions and acting a general kiddy fool when I get loot.

5) Any healing class gets a big YAY from me as well. Ah, healing. Seeing that green number above my head brings such joy to this Orcish heart.

60 Mounting

Whistle of the Black War Raptor

30 Marks from WSG, AB, and AV.

Next 600g for Riding (Journeyman) skill. Or you can get some rep and lower the costs:

- At friendly -- 570 gold
- At honored -- 540 gold
- At revered -- 510 gold
- At exalted -- 480 gold

Ah, you lucky, lucky trolls. You're able to mount a raptor at 40. Me, I've got to wait till 60. Even though we grew up in the same neighborhood. Even though I volunteered more hours for Darkspear Elementary than most of you.

I'm sorta jealous.

But then I realize I can wear shoes. Nana.

Item linking

I just wanted to run a test as I'll be posting items quite a bit. I really like having the items linked to wowhead in the paragraph so you can just mouseover for the stats.

Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker

So, it's really, really stinkin' easy if this works. Wow, that's is easy.

So, I chose Thunderfury 'cause I really wants it. Just because not many on Ravenholdt will probably EVER run old world instances or raids. *sigh* Maybe I can grab the guild and trick 'em somehow... or bribe... hmmm?

Anyway, linking - you need to put this tagline ANYWHERE in your HTML for your page:

-----------------------------------------------------
Well, can't link the commands on blogs. At least, I couldn't find the info. However, here's the link to the wowhead instructions.

http://www.wowhead.com/?forums&topic=3464

------------------------------------------------------

This makes it so that any item link you post in the page will be linked to wowhead. I used Thunderfury for my example - so did wowhead so I cheated ;)

See the 'class=q5' part of the code? That's for making the item show the proper color. I've got Thunderfury with ALL the colors by going from 5 - 0.

5 - Legendary (orange)
4 - Epic (purple)
3 - Rare (blue)
2 - Uncommon (green)
1 - Common (white)
0 - Vendor Trash! er, Poor (grey)

Introductions are in order

Ah, blogging. I read so many of 'em now. Most of them (95%) have to do with WoW, as I'm probably a mild addict and love the game.

Now, I'm jumping into the bloggin' atmosphere - comin' in hot.

I've got Orkwar on Ravenholdt. Pimp daddy, badass tank. Mad man in PvP and just plain steamroller on mobs.

I've got Neb on Ravenholdt as well - he's the Orc hunter who's got narcissistic streak for naming his pets after himself. I ran with him first, found it to be SO FUGGIN' EASY and switched to Orkwar to help out my Guild, Rend Fate.

Both toons just hit the 50s. Orkwar's gonna be clearing out Feralas while tanking any PUG he comes across (the Guild's a bit high in lvl for me to tank for 'em at this point). Neb's gettin' his rest in Western Plaguelands as he's already slaughtered through all of the other <50 quests for him.

I'm really just concentrating on Orkwar right now so I'm eating up all the Warrior tactics that I can. I'm building builds and talenting talents to make myself the most efficient lvl 70 tank on Ravenholdt. It's still a great new server, has RP, lots of Blood Elfs (female variety YAY) and some pretty talented Alliance.

Welp, that's the intro. I'll be posting in Warrior form for the next couple of posts. w00t!
